Out and About in Vannes

I was able to get Mac's guest blog back up - here it is!

Today was sunny in every way. Vannes and its cobbled streets, its ramparts and its lovely shops (shoppes), its happy people and its terraces - it was a blissful day, as attested to by this beautiful mother-daughter duo...

...and by our most excellent impersonation of a bigoudinière and her hubby (note how we are holding hands affectionately - love!)...

...and by the magic of a candy shop whose candies are made into bouquets and arrangements of all kinds...

...and by the beautiful surprise of harps being played before the cathedral (notice Mallory's interest) (she is a marvelous harpist herself).

A quick return home, and a birthday cake party for Oliver with our friends from the house on the island, and Alison (graciously adorning the cake with coulis the minute she walked in the door!) and Mallory. The cake was delicious, the company delightful, and I found myself in naïve disbelief that we won't be here for a next birthday, a next chapter, a next étape to share with our friends. But there is also a slow, increasingly gleeful realization, that the conversation doesn't have to end, and that may be the most wonderful thing of all.

Not sure why I can't resist this image of Iris, but I just can't. Maybe it's those little summer feet as the sun continues to warm us all.
